As a designer at BABOON, how did you make the choices for your own kitchen?
In my work, I've seen just about everything pass by. For me, the key is enough contrast. Colours that are too close together can quickly feel flat or washed out. By adding contrast, you create tension and character in a space. My tip: dare to go bold and don't be afraid of darker tones. There's not even any white in my home.

Is there something you can't live without?
Without a doubt: the bench. It's my fixed spot for a coffee moment in the morning sun. It's the first place in the house where the light comes in. At the same time, it's a social spot too: while one person cooks, someone else can sit down and join in. It really makes the kitchen a place to be together.

What is your most important advice when designing a kitchen?
Mix materials, use colour and add contrast!

What do you enjoy most about working at BABOON?
I've been working at BABOON for quite a while now, and no day is the same. That variety in projects is exactly what keeps the work inspiring. What I like most is that, as designers, we guide a project from start to finish. That means you're truly involved in the final result.

I love seeing that, in the end, you can recognise your own signature in it.

You design kitchens every day - where do you get your inspiration?
With my own camera, I often capture colour combinations I find in nature, architecture and interiors. I've collected those references and I often use them when clients give me carte blanche for colour combinations.

My colleagues are also a great source of design inspiration. Together, all designers create amazing things, and by adding just a slightly different touch you can often use that in your own designs.
